Sedation Dentistry

Patients of all ages can experience anxiety related to visiting the dentist. Others suffer from conditions such as arthritis that make it uncomfortable to sit for long periods in a dentist’s chair. Sedation dentistry induces a state of relaxation so that you can undergo necessary procedures without feeling anxious or physically uncomfortable. At Bivens Dentistry in Mt. Juliet, TN, we offer nitrous oxide and oral conscious sedation to help you have the most comfortable experience possible under our care. Dr. Shaun Bivens and his team are here to help you achieve the healthy, attractive smile you deserve.

Types of Sedation We Offer

We offer two sedation dentistry methods:

NITROUS OXIDE

nitrous oxide

Also known as laughing gas, nitrous oxide is inhaled through a face mask. Nitrous oxide sedation is approved for adults and children by the American Dental Association. During treatment, the doctor can monitor and control the amount of sedation you receive. It will only take a few minutes for the effects of sedation to wear off after treatment, so you can drive yourself home afterward.

ORAL CONSCIOUS SEDATION

At Bivens Dentistry we also offer oral conscious sedation that induces a deeper state of relaxation. It involves taking a pill before your dental appointment. Often, this type of treatment causes patients to remember very little, if anything, about their procedure. The effects take longer to subside, so you will need a friend or family member to drive you home.

If you are nervous about your procedure or struggle with another condition that makes it difficult to undergo dental treatment, we encourage you to be forward about it with Dr. Bivens, During your consultation, he can determine if sedation is right for you, and recommend the most appropriate type.

Benefits of Sedation Dentistry

Neglecting routine cleanings and exams for any reason can result in decay, infections, and other severe oral health issues. If you have been avoiding the dentist, sedation can help you feel at ease about your dental care. Your oral health has an important influence on your overall health, and we believe in doing all that we can to make sure you receive the care you need.

In addition to comfort, sedation dentistry can also help improve the efficiency of your procedure. Anxiety and other conditions can make it difficult for your dentist to administer treatment, but when you are relaxed, Dr. Bivens can expedite your care.
